We work closely with the local people who manage this project, and they have identified their primary volunteer needs as follow: 

* marketing and sales
* tourism management
* facilties management
* human resources management
* organisation and business development
* also - customer service; restoration; preservation; historical research; curator expertise

The Project

The Saint Lucia National Trust was established in 1975.; the headquarters is located at the Pigeon Island National Landmark, known as one of the most important monuments of St. Lucia's history. The Trust was created for the specific purpose of preserving buildings, objects of historic and architectural interest and areas of natural beauty together with their animal and plant life, for present and future generations.

The Saint Lucia National Trust is a non-profit organization and all revenues received are used for the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Saint Lucia. There is a strong membership of 600 and it is continuing to grow.

The Trust has responsibility to preserve and conserve much of the important natural history, architecture and heritage of Saint Lucia and needs to improve and develop income generating products and services and the neccessary organisational structure to support these initiatives.

Volunteers will work with and advise the executive staff which consists of a team of twenty led by The Director Bishnu Tulsie.The volunteer programme is based at the headquarters in Pigeon Island National Park a living museum within a natural setting of 44 acres - originally surrounded by the sea but now joined to the mailand by a causeway.

History, beautiful beaches and a large variety of tropical fauna and fauna - what a great place to work!

Oh and it's also the location for The world-renowned Jazz Festival!

Volunteer opportunities in a conservation project – experience and skills in tourism, natural or built environment, human resources, business development, marketing, customer service – all these skills and more will be welcome in this project. Minimum Duration
recommended 4 weeks minimum
Living Conditions

You will live in a self catering apartment close to the beach and tourist amenities in Rodney Bay
You will have your own large and airy  room with plenty of storage space and work space and a private shower room. There is a small communal swimming pool and you have a private patio for outdoor dining.You can choose to self cater or dine in one of the many local eateries.

Local small hotel accommodation can be arranged at additional cost

Project Costs

£1248 for 4 weeks based self catering in a 2 bedroom apartment sharing with one other volunteer -  privatebedroom room
NB single apartments are available at an additional $400 per month

Please note - these costs are correct to the best of our knowledge but can only be confirmed at time of booking, due to changes in transport and taxes outside our control.

N.B. Costs will be charged in dollars ( except people and places fee) the sterling conversion is based on $1.65 to £sterling

Your project donation will be used for the purchase of essential equipment for the project.

How your money is spent based on 4 weeks
$975 (£591) - direct costs in Saint Lucia (airport transfers, accommodation, orientation, information packs, SIM card)
$455 (£276) - project management, liaison & supervision in Saint Lucia
$200 (£121) - project donation in Saint Lucia
£260 GBP - recruitment, matching & project development in UK

Not included: flights, insurance, visa costs, daily travel to project (local bus fares are approx 7 USD per day), personal expenses such as phone calls, medical expenses, etc.
